GALLE & BENTOTA DAY TOUR
This day tour to Galle encompasses a wide range of exciting activities and begins with a gentle meandering boat ride on the Madhu River in Balapitiya that takes you through the stunning natural beauty of the mangroves. On the way you will also see some of the 64 islands dotting the open stretches of water to meet their friendly cinnamon cultivating inhabitants, and catch a glimpse of the wilder inhabitants around including birdlife, wild boar, and even crocodiles if you’re lucky. In addition, you can also experience traditional Kraal fishing techniques, and visit the local Buddhist temple.
Afterwards, proceed to Galle to visit a turtle hatchery where the immense conservation effort of protecting vulnerable turtle hatchlings takes place and then head to the Koggala beach where you get to see Sri Lanka’s iconic stilt fishermen seated on their perches and patiently waiting for a good catch. You can also visit the Galle fish market afterwards to view an almost endless variety of fresh seafood.
From here you will then be taken to the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Galle Fort – a Dutch-era VOC star fort where you can stroll through its narrow cobble stone avenues and lanes dotted with quaint cafes, restaurants, and curio shops. The museum is a must see site for history buffs.
